Many of you are considering trading in these engines for the new 2010 engines which promise to be a more stable and less expensive system to maintain. But are we willing to believe the manufacturer? As a service writer/foreman/mechanic I can tell you honestly that the 2010 emissions are not what they claim to be. Having attended classes on the repair of these systems I know what the realities are and they are not good. Once again the US Government has found a way to screw the owner/operators and fleet owners. With that I must add that it would be wrong to blame to the manufactures.

Cummins, Mack, Volvo and International are doing everything they can to offer you the best performing engine possible but they are plagued with the high demands of the US Government EPA. In the past a manufacturer would have years to develop and test and engine, and when they felt they had a rock solid engine they would introduce it into the trucks. Now have a few years. Not nearly long enough to do thorough testing. So when does the testing start? On the road, tested by hard working drivers and companies needing to move freight. And if the engine develops problems and has to be down while the engineers come up with a solution, who pays for the down time? We do. We ultimately pay the price for governmental standards.
